Cooperstown Festival Offers Brandenburg Concertos and Jazz with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet

Cooperstown, NY (August 11, 2008) The Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival marks the end of its tenth anniversary season with two concerts featuring the Brandenburg Concertos, and a jazz concert with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet.

On Saturday, August 16 at 11 am, the Festival presents “Family Music Fest: Go for Baroque”. This kid-friendly concert features the Brandenburg Concerto no. 5, and includes a hands-on instrument petting zoo. "The beauty and exuberance of the Brandenburgs are a great way to engage children," says Festival founder and artistic director Linda Chesis. The cost is $15 per family.

In a Gala Tenth Anniversary concert on Sunday, August 17 at 7:30 pm, flutist Linda Chesis, harpsichordist Bradley Brookshire, violinist Timothy Fain, and the CCMF Brandenburg Ensemble will perform the Brandenburg Concertos nos. 3-6. This concert of Bach’s joyous concertos features one of the largest ensembles ever gathered at the Festival. Audience members are invited to a post-concert reception with the artists, hosted by The Farmers’ Museum.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet will perform Tuesday, August 19 at 7:30 pm at the Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown. The Brubeck Brothers Quartet features two members of one of America’s most accomplished musical families, Dan Brubeck (drums), and Chris Brubeck (bass & trombone). Guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb complete this dynamic quartet. They have performed across North America and Europe including the Newport, Detroit, Ravinia, Las Vegas, Sedona, and Monterey jazz festivals. The BBQ was chosen to kick off the New Year with an hour long, coast-to-coast live broadcast on “Toast of the Nation” on National Public Radio.

These last three concerts illustrate the range of offerings by the Festival, from classical masterworks to family concerts and jazz. Performance Today, a radio program with one million listeners nationwide, has aired numerous Festival concerts, most recently on August 8. The New York Times highlighted Festival concerts twice in July, noting that Cooperstown’s “chamber music festival should not be overlooked.”
